A spending plan that would conclude the longest federal closure in the nation's history is reaching the House of Representatives for a decisive ballot on the coming day.

On day 43 of the political impasse, representatives are returning to Washington to decide whether to pass a Senate package that would support government departments for the next eight weeks.

Majority party officials voiced optimism the funding measure would clear the lower chamber, regardless of their tight margin. But leading opposition members vowed to oppose it.
