Manchester United Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
