The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight year.

The 27-year-old captured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – including retaining the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.

A Season of Consistency

Across the season, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.

The star player also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the whole season as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.

This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.

Historic Achievements

Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and earned a record eleven million pounds in prize money.

She garnered almost 80% of the votes cast by international tennis media.

Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a higher level".

Other WTA Award Recipients

• Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking 13-month break following the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
• Newcomer of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after beginning the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and climbing to world number 18.
• Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after securing their second Grand Slam title together.
• Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after making five finals.

Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third time.
