The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. At a time often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky sensibility.

"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about observing this charming family navigate their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its prevailing cynical streak. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to enjoy the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
